I spent my Memorial Day by the pool with my girlfriends, only to follow it up with some tasty margaritas. I think they are the perfect Summer drink. They're cold and tangy, and who doesn't like a little tequila on a warm day off of work? Their tastiness doesn't have to come with extra calories, thanks to Bethenny Frankels' 'Skinny Margarita' recipe. With only 160 calories, now you can enjoy two!

time flies

I'm typically a punctual person thanks to the time displayed on my cellphone, my dashboard, my iPod, etc. I sometimes forget about the old-fashioned way of telling time. You know, that little bauble that sits prettily on your wrist. Its purpose is to tell you the time, but it also serves as a statement piece.

I was lucky enough to receive my first, special watch for my college graduation last year. My mom gave me a beautiful over-sized Bulova watch. She's really great at choosing the perfect jewelry as gifts, ie: my birthday edition what i'm lovin' wednesday post. Since receiving that time piece, I've fallen in love with over-sized watches. Here are a few I have my eye on. Hellooooo, #3.

1. Molly Leather Strap Watch by Marc Jacobs
2. White Braided Leather Cuff Bracelet by Fossil

3. Horn Jet Set Chronograph Watch by Michael Kors
4. 'Lively' Watch in Gold and Teal by Juicy Couture

5. Goldtone Crystal-Accented Stainless Steel Bracelet by DKNY

6. Time Teller Acetate in Tortoise by Nixon

goulding is golden

Beautiful Brit, Ellie Goulding is on repeat on this lazy Tuesday. I've mentioned this songstress before in my cover it up post back in February. She did an amazing cover of Rihanna's "Only Girl." Other than her cool renditions, her own music is even better. Her debut album, Bright Lights is what is currently entering my eardrums. She has a unique voice and her lyrics are pretty gosh darn touching. As if this weren't enough to love her...if ever you're having a rocky time in love or like, then this is your album. The electropop feel makes it a bit less depressing.

I'm a sucker for acoustic and duets. Score! Goulding pairs up with Erik Hassle to do a cover of Robyn's "Be Mine." Take a listen...

I can't help but admire her laid back, but chic fashion sense. She makes flannel and over-sized knit hats look effortlessly cool.

what i'm lovin' wednesday

1. Midnight showings
It's been a reaaaally long time since I went to a midnight showing of a movie. I think it was when Sex and the City came out. Boy, that has been a few years! So, I'm really excited to stay up to see The Hangover 2 tonight. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the first one, and I'm eager to see how they spend their time in Bangkok. I'm sure my experience there was pretty different.

2. Walking the pups
My dear friend, Stephanie and I have recently started going on nightly walks with our crazy pups. The weather is amazing in the evenings and Tempe Town Lake is full of people getting their fitness on. It's nice to chit-chat and get in a little exercise, while our little ones explore.

3. Reunions
Nashville is a long way from Arizona, which makes having a friend living there hard, but makes their homecoming extra special. The group was reunited this weekend with our little TN resident, Larissa. It was fun to catch up, eat dinners, and hit up our old stompin' grounds.

crazy for calypso

Calypso St. Barth's collection for Target is fantastic. I browsed the different areas of the store and was pleasantly surprised by it's consistent taste in home, jewelry, and clothing. It's a great mix of neutrals and pops of colors, while sticking to a Carribean theme. I definitely want to hit some tropical island in these items, or at least decorate my studio so it seems like I'm there.

1. Gold Pouf
2. Tie Dye Silk Crinkle Scarf in Orange
3. Dinnerware Collection in Pink
4. Elephant Tea Pot
5. Wrap Bracelet with Chain in Green
6. Wick Candle
7.Calypso Linen Mini Clutch
8. Tumbler Set
9. Multi Chain Drop Earrings in Silver

run amuck

I am itching for my SHAPE Magazine to arrive. The main reason being that it has the pint-sized Kourtney Kardashian on the cover. Keeping up with the Kardashians has been a guilty pleasure of mine for quite some time, so it's fun to see one of the sister's gracing a health magazine, rather than a tabloid. After having the adorable baby, Mason, she looks toned and tiny. I checked out SHAPE's website to hold me over until the issue is in my hands.

It's no surprise that cardio played a big part in Kourtney's body transformation. Over time, I've seen first hand how much a simple run or a session on the elliptical can svelte down my body. Which reminds me...I need to get back into the race. Luckily, she shares some of her running workout. Thanks for the motivation, KK.

The Plan: Do 2 or 3 sets of each move twice a week, either on their own or as part of your normal resistance session.

Hands-on-Head Running

Place hands behind head, elbows out, and start jogging [shown]. Pay attention to whether you drift to the left or right or if one side of your body starts to feel more fatigued than the other, which could mean you have a muscle imbalance (these moves should help that). Run for 3 to 5 minutes.

Low Walking

Stand with feet hip-width apart and extend arms in front of you, hands clasped. Squat low.

Walk forward 20 steps, then backward 20 steps.

High Knees

Skip forward, lifting your knee as high as you can with each step you take [shown]. Swing arms in opposition to legs and do 20 skips (10 per leg). If you're doing this inside and don't have room to go very far, use a step or bench: Step up on it with one foot and lift the other knee high; hop on balancing leg if you can. Do 10 reps on one leg, then switch sides and repeat to complete set.

Side Running

Run to the side for 30 seconds: Step out to the left with left foot [shown], then bring your right foot in next to it as you step out again with left foot (don’t cross legs in front of each other). Alternate between taking smaller strides— maybe 18 inches wide—and wider strides (2 feet or more). Continue for 30 seconds, then switch directions and repeat. Do 4 runs to each side.

make some muffins

I'm not typically a fan of sweets in the morning, but it may be time to have a change of heart. Why are my taste buds suddenly craving sugary treats upon waking up? Because Cooking Light's website is full of recipes for tasty muffins. Even better, they are healthy and low-cal! Looks like it's time to break out the baking pans.

what i'm lovin' wednesday

1. Fullbars
So, I tend to overeat. Oops! It's hard to know when I'm actually full when I'm consuming something delicious. My tummy was getting a little big because of it. Thankfully, my mom told me about Fullbars. Eat the yummy bars 30 minutes before your meals with a glass of water. They expand in your stomach, causing you to eat less at mealtime. Score!

2. New bedding
Due to a recent mishap with my washer machine and white bedding, I had to purchase a new set. Let's just say, don't forget something lime green is in the washer. Urban Outfitters had the perfect duvet cover and shams to turn my frown upside down. Sweet dreams for me!

3. Nintendo 64
I don't care how nerdy I sound. I dusted off my Nintendo 64 and broke out my games. It may be old school, but all these new games and units are way too intimidating. I will stick with racing my DK on Mario Kart. Anyone care to race?

dinner party

My girlfriends and I have been chit-chatting and throwing around ideas for a dinner party. I'm glad I have a group of gals that love to cook and entertain as much as I do. We hope to round up our boys and make them a feast. We will just have to test out that age old saying, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach."

Besides whipping up some delicious dishes, the ambiance has to be right. No dinner party would be complete without a little fashionable decor at the table. The table should look just as appetizing as the food on our plates. Thankfully, there are tons of goodies to spruce up a patio table. I think these little bits of decor would be perfect for our Italian-themed dinner.

1. Calliope Multi Napkin by Crate & Barrel. A patterned napkin will serve as more than just a mess-cleaner.
2. Numerical Stoneware Plates by Target. Numbered plates will help you keep track of whose is whose.
3. Sunflower Pots by Target. Bright yellow flowers will be sure to put a smile on your guests' faces.
4. Wine Cork Candles by Target. Why not top off that bottle of wine with a little bit of light?
5. Glass Pedestal Stand & Dome by Pottery Barn. Show off those yummy desserts you baked in these dainty glass domes.
6. Antique-Silver Flatware by Pottery Barn. Love the vintage look of these utensils.

Now that there are some ideas for decorating, it's time to think up some menu items. Any ideas? There will surely be a post on the dishes we decide on.

primp your pup

It's absolutely no surprise that I write quite often about Charlie, my little terrier. I can't help it! She really is my best friend. She watches movies with me, falls asleep right next to me, and she gives me sloppy kisses. Can you really blame me for being smitten?

When we were surfing the web we saw that ModCloth had launched a puppy boutique, Pet Prezzies. Charlie drooled over all the goodies I could adorn her with. I admit I drooled a little too. Charlie's been rummaging through my purse for my credit card.

sunset strip

My brother-in-law has been hard at work producing this incredible documentary. Outrageous history and classic rock, what more can you ask for? Check out the trailer on Rolling Stone's website...

"The trailer for Sunset Strip, Hans Fjellestad's documentary about the rich history of West Hollywood's most famous stretch of road, is set to premiere this Sunday at the Cannes Film Festival. The film touches on the Strip's legacy of rock and debauchery, and features fresh perspectives on its past and present from major stars such as Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves, Slash, Billy Corgan, Ozzy Osbourne, Courtney Love, Tommy Lee, Perry Farrell and many more."

i've got sunshine

The weather is warming up and the sun is beating down on the valley. It's starting to feel like Arizona again, after a few months of inconsistent temperatures. It's time to celebrate Spring, its heat, and all that comes with it...barbecues, lemonade, poolside drinks, and a golden tan. So slather on the sunscreen and get a hold of some of these goodies so you can thoroughly enjoy this hot, hot, heat.

1. Miranda Sun Hat by Free People. The perfect floppy hat to protect your face from those rays.
2. Skinny Girl Margarita Mix. Feel like your on vacation with just one sip, without worrying about those dreadful calories.
3. 'Eva' Sandal by Sam Edelman. A great neutral sandal to go with any Spring piece you pull out of your closet.
4. Green To Go Cup by Crate & Barrel. Sip on something cool and tasty in this colorful cup.
5. One-piece by H&M. This burnt orange lace-up swimsuit will cover all the right places, but still show some skin.
6. Cat Eye Sunglasses by Ray-Ban. Snag the retro look right meow with these kitty cat shades.
7. Smooth Sailing by Essie. A lilac color with hints of blue will make the pool extra appealing.
8. Hutton-Boyfriend Tank by Wildfox. Slip on this over-sized tank and let your shirt do the talking.

what i'm lovin' wednesday

1. Neon
I am loving the bright colors for Spring, whether it be in clothing, makeup, or nail color. So I was especially excited when I visited American Apparel to see them unpacking their limited edition Neon nail polishes. I snagged them right out of the Fed-Ex box. Great thing is, you don't need a bunch of coats for the color to pop!

2. Family
As if I haven't mentioned it enough, I had a wonderful time with my family in California. It was great to catch up, listen to Luke's gibberish, and eat delicious food.

3. Cleaning
I'm spending my day making my apartment spick and span. I love the crispness of a freshly cleaned home. It really makes relaxing that much more enjoyable at the end of the day!

celebrating at soho

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day. We spent our morning sipping on coffee, opening presents, and playing with Luke. My mom loves her Jeffrey Campbell sandals and Williams-Sonoma 25-Year Barrel-Aged Balsamic vinegar. It can only make her bruschetta better, which I didn't think was possible. My sister loves her David Yurman Blue Topaz ring, Michael Kors wrap bracelet, and Free People pieces. You can guess who the last gift was from! My mom even thought of me because I have a dog. She bought me some greeting cards, a new makeup bag, and a journal. Gifts galore!

We then ventured to Soho House for a delicious lunch in their gorgeous roof garden. We drank Bloody Marys, Mimosas, and Bellinis, followed by our yummy meals. My sister's grilled cheese loaded with short rib took the cake! All seven of us took photos in the photo booth, which was quite a feat. They turned out hilarious! After lunch, we moved inside to look at the gorgeous views of the city and eat ice cream and just-baked chocolate chip cookies. I had chocolate and coconut ice cream and was in heaven. Everyone took bites! With a full belly, I definitely dozed off on the comfy couches.

Overall it was a perfect Mother's Day. I'm so happy I was able to venture to California with my mom to see my sister and her family. Little Luke is growing so fast, which makes me sad to pack up the car and head back to Arizona in a little bit. I better see him soon!

be heroic

Sometimes I have those rare days where I feel like I can take on the world, somewhat like a superhero. I don't go tie a cape around my neck, but it feels amazing to have the confidence to take on a work day, organizing my apartment, or a date with a cute guy. I do have a cape, but only because it was part of a Wonder Woman costume for Halloween. Truth is, I have a major crush on her. I think it's her confidence and her strength, but it also might be her bold outfit.

I think every girl should have little reminders that she is powerful, and that she can do anything she puts her mind to. So why not add little bits of WW's super hero uniform to everyday life? No, I'm not suggesting you wear a cape on that date because I doubt there would be a second one if you did. Here are some alternative, fashionable ideas...

My wrists are always craving a little somethin' on them, which is why I like to put on a collection of bracelets to work together as one statement piece. I like to mix beaded bracelets, cuffs, bangles, and sentimental jewelry. It can be a little noisy, but it's well worth it.This morning my mom gave me a new bauble from Barcelona to add to my little family of bracelets.

Here are some baubles I am a fan of...

1. Juicy Couture 'Endless Summer' Braided Fabric & Chain Bracelet
2. Pamela Love Sun Cuff
3. Kate Spade New York 'Pop Art' Bangle
4. Forever 21 Rose Bracelet Set
5. Marc Jacobs Classic Logo Band Bangle

6. Dogeared Not to Worry Teak Wood Bracelet

field trip

This afternoon we ventured to the Getty Center to take a peek at the gardens, admire some art, and absorb some history. Little Luke was super excited for exploring his first museum and learning some new things. He barely napped in his stroller because he was too interested in his surroundings. Why wouldn't he be? The grounds and the exhibits were amazing.

The Paris: Life and Luxury exhibit was my favorite. It had ginormous tapestries, detailed paintings, dresses, and intricate furniture. There was a bed I had to have. If only I had twelve-foot ceilings.

After checking out a few more exhibits, we sat down at the cafe with some tasty sandwiches and some warm soup. It was a little chilly out, so it was nice to have warmth in our tummies. After our little lunch, we strolled the outside and admired the gardens and the views of the city.

pasta al pomodoro

Some nights call for easy dinners to whip up. Maybe it's been a long day at work, perhaps you're lacking in the ingredient department, or maybe you're in a rush to whip up din-din for someone special. Whatever your time dilemma is, you should still treat yourself to something absolutely delicious!

I'm a huge fan of Italian food, which is why I felt a tinge of excitement when I saw my sister's issue of Bon Appétit sitting on her table. That little bit of thrill came from seeing that the May issue was the "Italy Issue." Inside contained so many pizza, pasta, and delicious dessert goodies. Among them were a few quick and easy recipes, one in particular my sister swears by. So here it is...

  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, minced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 28 oz. can peeled tomatoes, puréed in a food processor
  • Kosher salt
  • 3 large fresh basil sprigs
  • 12 oz. bucatini or spaghetti
  • 2 Tbsp. cubed unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan or Pecorino

Heat extra-virgin olive oil in a 12" skillet over medium-low heat. Add minced onion and cook, stirring, until soft, about 12 minutes. Add garlic and cook, stirring, for 2-4 minutes. Add crushed red pepper flakes; cook for 1 minute more. Increase heat to medium, add puréed tomatoes and season lightly with kosher salt; cook, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens slightly and the flavors meld, about 20 minutes. Remove pan from heat, stir in basil sprigs, and set aside.

Meanwhile, bring water to a boil in a 5-qt. pot. Season with salt; add spaghetti or bucatini and cook, stirring occasionally, until about 2 minutes before tender. Drain pasta, reserving 1/2 cup pasta cooking water.

Discard basil and heat skillet over high heat. Stir in reserved pasta water to loosen sauce; bring to a boil. Add pasta and cook, stirring, until sauce coats pasta and pasta is al dente, about 2 minutes. Remove pan from heat; add butter and cheese; toss until cheese melts. Transfer to warm bowls; serve with more cheese, if desired. (Serves four).

You can always add a little sausage or meatballs to give this dish a little more oomph! I can't wait to try whipping it up once I get back home. Dinner party, anyone?

many thanks, mama

Mother's Day is two days away, which is why I traveled to California to spend time with my family. I know my Sunday will consist of a yummy brunch at Soho House, giving gifts, and perhaps some mimosas. The most important part of the day will be celebrating the two ladies in my life: my mom, and my sister, who is a recent mom to my feisty seven-month-old nephew.

However you spend your day, make sure to smother your mom with love and treat her to some nice gifts. You still have time to shop for a few goodies, if you haven't yet.

1. Revitalizing Home Candle by Green & Spring. Add a pleasant scent to her home with this yummy smelling candle. The little bird is a nice decorative touch.
2. Mini Tiered Cakelet Pan by William-Sonoma. My family is full of bakers, so this mini-pan cake is perfect for special occasions, or just when you're feeling cuisine creative.
3. Gwendolyn Tote by Tory Burch. Every mom needs a large tote for everyday needs!
4. New Mom Make A Wish Necklace by Dogeared. Send best wishes with this necklace.
5. Sex and the City-The Complete Series. Sometimes a woman needs to kick back and catch up with her four girlfriends, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda.
6. Certified Organic Pure Shea Butter by L'Occitane. With all the work these ladies do, a little moisture will soften those hands right up.
7.'Mention' Flat by Jeffrey Campbell. Comfy flats are necessary when you run around all day.
 8. Summer Lemons Glass Set by Crate & Barrel. My mom is an entertainer, and these lemon tumblers would go perfectly with her lemonade pitcher.

go shop!

Free People opened its second store in Arizona today! While I'm missing the grand opening at Scottsdale Quarter due to my road trip to California, I highly suggest you all to go check it out. Let our lovely girls help you pick some new Spring pieces and enjoy the new store displays.

Now, to share some of the new Spring ensembles that I have to wear...

what i'm lovin' wednesday

1. Mini vacays
I'm so excited to head to California for the weekend to spend time with my family. It's my sister's first Mother's Day, and you all know I can't wait to smother my baby nephew with kisses.
2. Cinco de Mayo
I love this celebration because it includes chips, guacamole, and margaritas. Is there a better way to spend time with your girlfriends? We will be at our spot. Come join!

3. Haircuts
I felt like I needed a change, so I recently took the plunge and chopped off all my locks. It was a little scary, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. It's easy to manage, and I feel a bit more grown up/polished. Here's to a new me!
