opportunities

Life is full of opportunities, whether we see them or not. When we have a negative attitude or outlook, we tend to see the worst in everything. We have trouble seeing the silver lining. We can't find an opportunity, especially when it takes a little digging or hard work.

Instead of being blind to opportunity, it's best to stay optimistic and open. It's easier to see them with a positive attitude. We can look around us and see all the opportunities that are presented to us daily in the crazy thing we called life. Some are apparent, some take work, and some are found in the rubble of a hardship.

For the ones that are apparent, seize them. It's rare that they are handed to you. For the ones that take work, work. It will make you appreciate them that much more. For the ones that are found in the rubble, stay strong and look for something to take away from it. We learn the most from life's hard lessons. At least, that's what I have come to find.

These opportunities could be in the form of relationships, friendships, career paths, making amends, taking control of your health, volunteer work, challenges, new experiences, doing something kind. Remember, there are opportunities everywhere. It's up to you to see them and take advantage of them. Your life will be much more fulfilling.

foodie fridays

I love pizza. I love cauliflower. Did you know you could make a pizza crust out of cauliflower? Yep. A healthy version of pizza, people. Try this recipe out.

Side notes: squeeze out excess water from cauliflower after cooked. Bake at 375.

new hiit routine

I posted my HIIT workout here, and the benefits of it here. I've been at it for awhile and decided to challenge myself more with a new routine. Remember, your body is amazing at adjusting to workouts, which is why we hit plateaus so often. You have to keep switching it up and pushing yourself in order to see results.

So, here is my new HIIT workout. Remember to warm up and cool down. I warm up for 5 minutes at level 4, and cool down just the same.

I've been loving dining at the food bar! It's just so delicious, and convenient.

Mama and I have been having yoga dates and getting our sweat on. It's been fun and my body appreciates it.

what motivates you?

There are internal motivators and external motivators.

  • Internal: improving your health and bettering yourself to reach your full potential. 
  • External: impressing someone or looking good for a special someone.

 When it comes to staying motivated in the gym and in my eating habits, I'm more driven by internal motivators. I run my own race. I want to be the absolute best I can be and feel the best I've ever felt. I want to live a long life, and I want to feel confident living it! Sure, there are occasions (external motivators) I would like to look my best for. With my graduation and summer coming up, I feel the need to push harder in my workouts. Still, this is a journey solely for me and my well-being. Be your own competition!

food diary

A lot of you have been asking for my meal plans or some sort of food diary. Let me start off by saying that everyone is different. Every body type is different. This is what works for me. Since I started my "Back on Track" challenge (here), I've decreased my portion sizes and eat five, sometimes six, meals a day. Here is what I ate this past week..

Monday: 
  •  Total Lean 25 protein shake
  • 2 hard boiled eggs smashed with mustard and relish
  • Chicken, broccoli, Sriracha
  • A handful of cashews, almonds, dried cranberries
  • Chicken serenada, veggies, greek yogurt
Tuesday:
  • Bear Naked granola, greek yogurt, strawberries, blackberries, flaxseed
  • 2 hard boiled eggs
  • Chicken serenada
  • A handful of cashews, almonds, dried cranberries
  • Chicken, broccoli, Sriracha, sweet potato, greek yogurt
Wednesday:
  • Total Lean 25 protein shake
  • 2 hard boiled eggs smashed with mustard
  • Chicken, broccoli, Sriracha, sweet potato, greek yogurt
  • A handful of cashews, almonds, dried cranberries
  • Half of a Strawberry Chopped salad from True Food Kitchen
Thursday:
  • Egg whites, spinach, broccolini, feta. Strawberries, blackberries, and kiwi
  • 2 hard boiled eggs 
  • Overnight oats
  • A handful of cashews, almonds, dried cranberries
  • Chicken, broccoli, Sriracha
 Friday:
  • Egg whites, spinach, onion, tomato, brocoolini, feta cheese. Total Lean 25 protein shake
  • 2 hard boiled eggs
  • Tuna salad
  • A handful of cashews, almonds, dried cranberries
  • Veggies, chicken, quinoa patty
Saturday: 
  • Egg whites, spinach, Ezekiel toast with almond butter and banana slices
  • Berry and spinach smoothie
  • A handful of cashews, almonds, dried cranberries
  • Brown rice, chicken, veggies
  • Berries, banana and almond butter, almonds
Sunday:
  • Total Lean 25 protein shake
  • Veggie fritatta

foodie fridays

I love cobbler. Peach cobbler, apple cobbler, cherry cobbler. You name it. I really craved it one night, so I decided to make up a clean version. I used strawberries and raspberries, and it was oh-so-good. Try it out!

spring into essie


I love Essie. I love spring. Put the two together and you have some bright and bold colors. I love their latest collection because it has the best colors for my tips and toes. I admit I already have two of the colors. "Come Here" and "Under Where?" are girly and fun. I think the other two need to be added to my large container of polishes.

My mom turned me onto Essie at a young age and I've been a fan ever since. The brush is so easy to use and fills every millimeter of my nails. I don't get manicures or pedicures because I believe in doing it myself, so having a quality polish and brush are huge for me. Essie never does me wrong.

My dear friends in The Summer Set released their third album, and it's so darn good! Go buy it!

Boyfriend bought us tickets to my favorite play! It was a wonderful production, and I definitely cried.

3. PB&J parfait
I made the yummiest concoction of Greek yogurt, granola, peanut butter, and raspberries. It was like a healthy version of my favorite peanut butter and jelly.

I am practically obsessed with our dogs. Okay, okay. I am definitely obsessed with them. Charlie and Nugget can turn my whole day around with just one kiss or look my way. They're always playing, cuddling, or begging for treats. All of these moments lend for great pictures.

full moon

It's been awhile since I've done a style post. Boyfriend was kind (and creative) enough to play photographer and snap some shots. The weather was perfect and it was fun playing around in the backyard.

My darling friends from Hearts sent me this fantastic necklace to style. I've talked about them here. I love the two-toned look of silver and gold, but the pop of turquoise is what really gets me. It's my favorite color, and it's perfect to brighten up any outfit.

This is the Full Moon Pendant Necklace. It's handmade from India, and what's special about it is it financially supports women and their families in India. I love items that have a cause behind them, and it feels good wearing such a beautiful piece with a beautiful meaning.

six week challenge

I feel like I have hit a plateau lately. My abs have gone soft from wine and indulgences, and I am lacking motivation. While I still go to the gym six days a week, there is very little "umph" in my step. It happens. I'm human. I need a push. I need a challenge. So, today kicks off my 6 week challenge. I chose 6 because it's my lucky number and because I feel like it's a good amount of time to transform. Whenever you lack motivation try creating a challenge. Remember, if it doesn't challenge you it doesn't change you.

So this picture was taken today and I'm excited to see progress! I have so many exciting events coming up, my graduation from graduate school, my one year anniversary, the start of summer, trips planned. I want to feel and look my best. I know this will hold me accountable because having an audience is that much more of a push.

So, what does this challenge entail? I put together my own personal challenges and goals that I would like to take on and accomplish.

Cleaner foods. While I already live a clean eating lifestyle, there are tweaks I can make to "clean" up my diet a little more. Food labels will be a big part of my reading material. I'm going to fill up on more fruits, veggies, and lean protein.

Smaller portions. Eating healthy is a great step towards changing any body, but just because it's healthy doesn't mean you should stuff your belly to the brim. I need to work on eating smaller portions and listening to my body to know when its satisfied, not full.

New and challenging workouts. The reason behind my slump could be a lack of imagination in the gym. I'm going to mix up my workouts more by trying new machines and taking classes again. I need a challenge and I need to push myself more.

More water. This is a necessity. I know I don't drink enough water because of the headaches I often get. I may need to purchase a large water jug so it's convenient and a big reminder to drink up.

No alcohol or cheat meals. Boyfriend and I like to indulge in a glass of wine on some nights or weekend cocktails. No more boozin' for me! Alcohol can really hinder progress and makes the body feel lousy.

Research nutrition and fitness. You can never be too smart. I'm constantly learning by researching information on nutrition and fitness. I want to learn more, more, more! Fitness websites and Oxygen Magazine will be my best friends.
